Police have arrested a suspect in the killing of a 65-year-old man over a cow in Twic County of Warrap state.
The suspect who is believed to be 47 years old allegedly murdered the old man in Dhieu Agaal village in Akoc Payam.
According to the police, the suspect owed the old man a cow. The old man went to court over the matter and the court directed the suspect to repay the old man – in which he complied. However, the suspect reportedly followed the old man to his home and took the cow by force.
Brigadier General Marko Mawien Madut, Director of Police in Twic County said the deceased was hit on the neck with a stick.
He said the suspect then ran away with the cow.
“The suspect rejected the court order and took the cow by force from the house of the old man. The old man followed him, unfortunately he beat the old man. He died immediately. The suspect relocated with his family to Malual Baai town, but he is now in police custody,” Brig. Gen. Mawien narrated.
He added that the suspect was apprehended in Malual Baai town on Sunday.
Brig. Gen. Marko Mawien urged the relatives of the deceased to remain calm and allow the law to take its course.
