The South Sudan People's Defense Forces (SSPDF) has announced deployment of forces and series of security measures aimed at ensuring the safety of both South Sudanese citizens and foreign nationals during the festive season.

According to a statement from SSPDF spokesperson Maj. Gen. Lul Ruai Koang, these efforts are being made in close coordination with other organized forces and under the overall command of Lt. Gen. Thoi Chany Reat.

One of the SSPDF's security efforts involves the dismantling of illegal roadblocks and unauthorized tax collection that have long been a source of concern for travelers and citizens.

'All illegal roadblocks/check points along the following roads had been removed as indicated below: Juba-Nimule Highway, Juba-Bor Road, Juba-Keji Kejo Road and Juba-Miridi Road,” Lul said.

“To ensure prevention of re-establishment of illegal roadblocks/checkpoints, SSPDF is currently deploying standby forces along aforementioned major roads.”

This move is part of a broader effort to create a safe and secure environment during the holiday season, ensuring that citizens and visitors can travel freely across the country without facing unnecessary obstacles or harassment.

Security Measures for Festive Celebrations

As the Christmas and New Year holidays approach, Lul said the SSPDF is committed to maintaining peace and order, especially in urban areas where large gatherings and celebrations are expected.

“Joint security forces will conduct vehicular and foot patrols with special focus on hotspots areas known for higher rates of criminal activities.”

“SSPDF leadership/command, urges all citizens and foreign nationals to cooperate with security forces as well as report any suspicious activities in order for preventative and pre-emptive measures to be taken,” he said.

Deployment in Tambura County, Western Equatoria State

In addition to the nationwide security measures, the SSPDF has responded to increasing insecurity in Tambura County of Western Equatoria State.

“SSPDF has responded by deploying a Battalion sized force in the area to restore law and order.”

The force's presence in Tambura is expected to provide stability, allowing for the continuation of basic services and the protection of local communities during this critical period.

“SSPDF Chief of Defense Forces and Assistant Chief of Defense forces for Operations/commander of Joint Security would like to wish all the people of South Sudan a Merry Christmas and Happy Prosperous 2025 in advance.”
