
The South Sudan Basketball Federation (SSBF) has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic passing of Dominik Philip, a former national team player who represented the country in the 2020 Zone 5 Afrobasket qualifiers.
In a statement posted on their official Facebook page, the federation described Philip as a dedicated athlete who played with passion and humility, earning admiration from fans with his exceptional jumping ability and powerful dunks.
"We are deeply saddened to hear of the tragic death of Dominik Philip. He was an incredible talent who contributed to our national team at the start of our journey," the statement partly reads.
Philip was among the early group of players who helped lay the foundation for South Sudan’s rise in international basketball.
His contributions, both on and off the court, were recognized by teammates and supporters alike.
The SSBF extended its condolences to Philip’s family and friends, mourning the loss of a player who left a mark on the sport in South Sudan.
