Speeding vehicle kills two in Aweil West

Two people have died after a motorcycle they were riding on was run over by a speeding vehicle in Aweil West County on Friday morning, police said.

The Toyota Landcruiser with registration number SSD 9278 was destined for Nyamlel when it hit the bike along the Roolcol-Wedwil road.

The deceased were identified as Garang Atak Bak, 30; and Atak Deng Bol, 28.

“These people were coming from Warcuei and heading to Wedwil because it is a market day there today,” Sgt.-Maj. Anei Dut Awan, traffic police officer, explained to Akol Yam FM.

“One was riding the motorbike and the other was on the pillion, carrying a goat that they were going to sell.”

Anei disclosed that the young men succumbed to their injuries immediately.

“Unfortunately, they were run down by the vehicle, killing them instantly, including the goat they were carrying.”

He added that, the driver of the vehicle — whom he declined to name — has been detained.

This brings to three the total number of road accidents recorded this month alone. Last week, a 38-year-old man was run over by ARC truck driver in Aweil East County.
