South Sudan Basketball Federation excited as the FIBA World Cup Trophy will be visiting Juba

The South Sudan Basketball Federation is excited to announce that the FIBA World Cup Trophy will be visiting Juba, South Sudan.

Dr. Arou Ramadam, the Deputy Secretary of the South Sudan Basketball Federation expresses happiness mentioning that it is a great feeling that the trophy is coming to South Sudan.

In February 2023, the South Sudan Senior Men’s National Basketball Team qualified to FIBA World Cup 2023, which will be held from August to September later this year in Philippines-Japan-Indonesia.

In April 2023 the team completed its first ever FIBA World Cup Draw. The Bright Stars were placed in Group B, alongside China, Serbia, and Puerto Rico. The group’s games will be hosted in Manila, Philippines.

According to Dr. Arou it is of its first kind that the FIBA World Cup Trophy is going to be brought in any East African Country.

He says it is a dream come true for the South Sudan Basketball Federation as it is what they have always longed for.

‘’It’s a good feeling that the trophy is coming to South Sudan, it is for the first time the trophy for the first time the trophy is coming to any country in East Africa, it is a very proud moment for South Sudan and the federation. It is what we have been dreaming of and as you know what basketball has been doing to the country, so far uniting and bringing us together,’ he expressed.

‘’It is a very good feeling and we bringing it home for every fan that has been supporting us to see it and be able to take a picture with it, it is the same trophy that we are going to battle for in Manilla and we are praying and going to work hard to see that it comes back home if possible, nothing is impossible  as the team has shown us so far.It is a good feeling and we are ready to welcome and show it around the whole country’’ Dr. Arou told The Radio Community.

The FIBA World Cup Trophy is currently touring countries that have qualified and will be visiting Juba on May 29 and May 30.

During its two-day visit, the FIBA World Cup Trophy will be viewed by the youth, sports community, media, and the public on May 30, 12:00 – 06:00 PM at Nimra 3 Basketball Stadium.
