A South Sudan People’s Defense Forces soldier has been reportedly killed in a gunfight between a unity and unidentified gunmen in Gogrial East County of Warrap State.
Mathiang Kuot Majok, 31, was shot dead in Nyang Payam on Monday evening during the fighting, according to the inspector of police in the county.
Col Madut Anei says the fighting occurred when the armed men opened fire on a military base in Amethnhom, unprovoked.
“Unfortunately, the unidentified gunmen opened fire on the army base, resulting in the death of one soldier. No other casualties were reported,” Anei told Mayardit FM on Tuesday.
“The suspects were repulsed immediately, and no one knows where they came from.”
