A 10-year-old schoolboy was reportedly found dead in a
dormitory at The Covenant Christian Kindergarten and Primary Day and Boarding
School in Magwi County, Eastern Equatoria State, on Wednesday.
The Covenant Christian Kindergarten and Primary Day and
Boarding School in Magwi County is a private school.
The head teacher at the school, Nelson Mandela, said the
body of Stephen Joseph was discovered by his fellow pupils in the morning while
they were getting ready for the day.
“I got the information in the morning at 5 a.m. that one
of the children had died. I rushed to the dorm and confirmed the death,”
Mandela told Singaita FM.
“We called his seven brothers and investigated them; they
told us that the child was sick before they came to the school.”
The in-charge at Magwi Primary Health Care Center, Mr.
Lawrence Otim, confirmed that the boy died of anemia.
He says the boy apparently had diarrhea for three days.
“The child died of anemia. It led to organ failures. My
message to the parents is that this diarrhea is not good. If you have it,
please try to visit the hospital early so that you can be helped.”
Mandela said the administration wished it knew of the
condition of the Primary 3 pupil.
He added: “If we, the administration of the school, knew
that this child was sick, we would intervene immediately.”
