President Salva Kiir has dismissed Sarah Cleto Rial, the Governor of Western
Bahr El Ghazal State, and appointed Emmanuel Parimo Okello as her replacement,
according to presidential decrees announced on State-owned television, SSBC, on
Friday evening.
In the same set of decrees, Kiir also relieved the Deputy Minister of
Finance, Agok Makur, appointing Bech George as his successor.
In a separate decree, Sarah Cleto was appointed as a member of the
Transitional Council of States, representing the main opposition faction, the
Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-in-Opposition (SPLM-IO).
In her letter of appreciation, Sarah Cleto expressed her gratitude to both
President Kiir and First Vice President Riek Machar for entrusting her with the
leadership of Western Bahr El Ghazal State.
"I am writing to express my heartfelt gratitude and appreciation for
the opportunity to have served under your leadership," she wrote to
President Kiir.
Addressing Riek Machar, she added, "I want to take this moment to
express my sincere thanks for the trust and support you have shown me during my
tenure. Your leadership and guidance have been invaluable, and I am grateful
for the opportunity to have served under your vision."
Sarah Cleto was the only female governor appointed on June 30, 2020.
