President Kiir extends gratitude for being endorsed as SPLM flag bearer for 2024 presidential race

Upon arrival in Wau, President Salva Kiir Mayardit has expressed gratitude to Bahr El Ghazal leaders for endorsing him as SPLM flag bearer for the 2024 presidential race.

South Sudan is expected to go for general elections in December 2024 – 60 days before the end of the 24-month transitional period of the roadmap.

Addressing thousands of people from the States of Bahr El Ghazal and Abyei Special Administrative Area, Kiir vowed to bring services closer to the local communities in the Country as he prepares to contest for presidency in 2024.

Kiir promises that his leadership will not accept further extension of the transitional period if the 2 years roadmap ends.

‘‘This is your endorsement and I have accepted it; I know there are some people who are still doubting but the SPLM unity in Bhar El Ghazal today has spoken to our five chairpersons of greater Bahr El Ghazal am thankful for trust bestowed upon me” said Kiir.

For his part, on behalf of the delegates, Lakes State Governor Gen. Rin Tueny Mabor confirms Kiir endorsement.

‘‘The delegates present here were drawn from Bomas, Payam’s. Counties of Lakes Western and Northern Bahr El Ghazal, Warrap and Abyei. We want to demonstrate to the Country that Bahr El Ghazal region is peaceful, stable, and united and we are ready for the forthcoming elections 2024.”

Presidential Affairs Minister Dr. Barnaba Marial Benjamin said the President’s visit to Wau will be followed by similar tours to the States in Equatoria and Upper Nile regions to interact with the electorates, and deliver to them a message of hope, peace, and unity.
