The suspect, Nyanyai Chol Ayai, was reportedly earlier spotted at the Mayen Abun Hospital where the baby was born.
James Mangong Duop, inspector of police in Wunrok, stated, "On Wednesday at around 8:00 am, a woman in Mayen Abun stole the three-day-old baby girl from her mother."
The police later discovered the 22-year-old with the baby at her home in Awilgik village, Wunrok Payam.
Duop stated that after the suspect's arrest, a checkup revealed she was 5 months pregnant.
He says they were still investigating the incident, but the motive behind the baby's theft is unknown.
The 3-day-old baby girl, Adit Magai Maror, was then returned to the hospital to be with the mother, Arek Ring Daung, 30.
“The medical personnel examined it, and it is in good condition and was given back to her mother safe and sound,” the police officer added.
For her part, Arek confirmed that she has received her baby, and the baby is safe and healthy.
She appreciated the efforts of the police, who helped her find her baby on time.
