Poor hygiene causing an increase in diarrhea cases in Aweil West County

According to a health official, one of the main causes of the increase in diarrhea cases in Aweil West County is poor hygiene habits.

Nyamlel Hospital last week reported 48 instances of acute watery diarrhea in children under the age of five.

According to the deputy county health director, certain residential areas have uncovered water pots that can give a child diarrhea if they drink from them.

According to Lual Khamis Lual, the institution plans to look into water sources and that unclean water might potentially be a concern.

“We want to look into the water sources to see if they might be causing diarrhea; they might be the main source, but we can’t draw any conclusions just yet. As of right now, we do know that kids require care and that there is a lot of dust. There’s a chance that a water cup may be left on the ground, and the minor will just pick it up and drink the water, which will result in diarrhea.

Lual urges people to practice proper hygiene in order to shield kids from diarrhea.

He urges parents to take their children who are having diarrhea as soon as possible to the closest hospitals.
