Police probes attempt murder of lady in Obo

Police in Obbo Payam of Magwi County in Eastern Equatoria state are investigating circumstances under which a lady was cut by suspected gangs’ group on Friday.

Obbo Head chief Mr. Ringo Filbert told Singaita that the 27-year-old Betty Apoko was cut with panga by unknown people when she was returning from a funeral place.

“This woman was not beaten but cut with panga. It was on Friday at Gatwoo Village of Labato Boma, while people were attending funeral that it happened a lady was cut with panga,” said Filbert.

The County Commissioner, Polepole Benjamin, visited the lady in magwi county health center. He told Singaita FM that the lady sustained injuries on her head and her hand.

“I heard of the incident yesterday, I even show the woman when I went to visit people in the hospital. It is really a pity to see that woman in that condition. I witnessed the cut was on her head and some on her hand which is so dangerous to our society currently and when I asked her, she said these are the gangs’ groups that are moving at night,” Benjamin stated.

Benjamin said the culprits are still on the run and are being pursued by the authorities to bring them to book and established reasons behind the attack.

“The suspects still at large. They have not yet gotten anyone who is responsible for that or any suspects. This is a very negative new development which is taking place now in Magwi,” he said.

Benjamin described the incident as an unfortunate development in the area and says security strategies are being put in place to strengthen police with the help of Youth to end the practice in the area.
