Police hold ‘killer’ driver in Rumbek town

Police in Lakes State are holding a driver accused of killing two members of the Rumbek town court riding on a motorbike on Monday morning.

Deng Ajou Ajou, 30, was driving a Hilux when he reportedly hit the motorbike, killing Maker Machiec Magok, 40; and Chol Maliaap.

Before he knocked and killed the town court staff, Deng ran into two pedestrians in the same area of Matangai, injuring them.

“The Hilux driver coming from Wau knocked and killed two staff working for Rumbek Town Court on Monday morning at Matangai and fled from the scene,” Elijah Mabor, police spokesperson, confirmed to Mingkaman FM. “So, security followed him until he was later arrested in Rumbek East.”

As part of investigation, Chol Arol Kelueljang, the Director of Traffic police in Lakes State the driver was under the influence of alcohol and Marijuana after they confiscated some in the car.

“He kept driving toward people in a very high speed and people could run away. We tried all the means, but we could not get him immediately until he reached Nyintok, where the traffic police officers and the police managed to shoot the wheel, disabling the vehicle,” Chol explained.

“He was carrying alcohol and Bhangi; those were the influencers for careless driving.”

Arol says the investigation will commence this Tuesday and the suspect will be arraign in Court.
