Police arrest suspect in stabbing of a trader in Aweil

One of four suspects has been arrested following the fatal stabbing of a trader in Aweil town, Northern Bahr El Ghazal state on Monday.

The police say the trader was attacked by 4 people near his home at 11pm in Tit Agok, Maper Akot Aru in Aweil town. The trader was reportedly stabbed in the neck.

Captain Guot Guot Akol, the State Police Spokesperson said one of the suspects was arrested on Tuesday afternoon.

“The suspect admitted that he is the one who stabbed the late with a knife… and he said he was informed by his colleagues this morning that the person that they attacked yesterday passed away,” he stated.

Last week, the state beefed up security in Aweil following reports of gang groups mobilizing ahead of the festive season.

Some residents alleged that the gang groups are recruiting new members in the community – a sign that criminalities will increase during the festive season when most families would be shopping for Christmas.

“I know the suspected youth called nigga have created insecurity in residential areas but police has plan to deployed additional forces to boost the security in Aweil town head the Christmas festival,” Captain Guot affirmed.

He said the security forces have been deployed in various residential areas to protect lives and properties of Aweil residents, adding that more officers are being deployed in the neighboring Counties.
