One person is dead, and three others have been wounded following an ambush on Torit-Kapoeta Road.
The incident happened on Thursday evening at 3pm in Kideopo.
Authorities said a commercial vehicle travelling from Torit heading to Kapoeta fell into an ambush resulting in the death of a 15-year-old boy and three others sustaining injuries.
The state minister of local government and law enforcement, Hon. Peter Lokeng Lotone said having learnt of the incident, South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) were sent to the scene to investigate and rescue trapped passengers who ran into the bush.
‘When the forces arrived at the scene, they found a boy dead in the vehicle and the driver, including other passengers who ran into the bush were rescued, three were injured. And nothing was taken from the vehicle. The injured have been taken to Torit civil hospital for medication,’ Lokeng told Singaita 88.3 FM.
‘The government formed a peace and security mission to curb insecurities along the road but still communities are not adhering to it, and we need to know that security is not only the sole responsibility of the government but every citizen,’ he added.
Lokeng advises the communities in Camp 15 and the entire public to report any criminal activity to the police so that all criminals can be arrested.
‘‘I urged everyone to cooperate with the government in identifying those causing insecurities along the roads. These criminals can also be identified with the help of the chiefs because many of them are living within the community.’’
He condemned the incident, urging all communities in the state to desist from road attacks and embrace peace.
