The Transitional National Legislative Assembly missed its scheduled sitting on Monday due to the absence of an agenda for deliberation, according to the spokesperson.
Every Thursday, the Assembly Business Committee prepares and discusses the agenda for the house before the sitting begins.
However, MPs did not receive the discussion agenda this Monday.
“No agenda has been produced yet, and it’s now 10:30 AM. So far, there’s no sitting,” Hon. Oliver Mori, chairperson of the information committee and spokesperson for parliament, told The Radio Community.
Parliament holds sittings three days a week, from Monday to Wednesday. On Thursdays, the Assembly Business Committee meets in a closed-door session to discuss and scrutinize the agenda for the following week.
The spokesperson did not disclose why the Assembly Business Committee failed to issue the agenda for Monday's parliamentary sitting. The agenda for Tuesday's sitting also remains undisclosed.
On November 27, 2024, the Office of the Clerk issued the agenda items for the Assembly Business Committee to discuss on November 28.
These included the Family Bill 2024, a concept note for the formation of the South Sudan Environmental Parliamentary Caucus, and the report of the 149th Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly, in preparation for their discussion in the house.
However, during last Wednesday’s sitting, the assembly discussed and adopted the report of the 149th Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly and tabled the East African Community Treaty Bill 2024.
