Authorities in the Pibor Administrative Area say nine cattle traders have been killed and 12 others injured in a cattle raid at Mogeri in Central Equatoria State.

According to reports, cattle traders from Pibor had camped at Mogeri with their animals when they were attacked on Wednesday morning. The attackers also made away with several heads of cattle.

Officials say the traders had planned to drive the cattle to the livestock market in Juba.

The Minister for Information, Oleyo Akuer, said the causalities have been taken to Juba for medical attention.

It is not yet clear where the attackers come from, according to the minister.

However, he stated that the suspected criminals were dressed in military uniform, and they fled to the Mangala area in Terekeka County.

“The government of Central Equatoria and the government of Pibor Administrative Area are now sitting at Mangere to discuss what would be the next step and also look to the national government for the response to such an incident," Oleyo told Mingkaman FM.

Mogeri is located about 20 kilometers north east of Juba.
