A Catholic community in Budi County, Eastern Equatoria State, is asking for a priest to run their chapel.

Located in Ngauro Payam, Ngauro Chapel was establish in 2020 to serve the Catholics in the area. The chapel council chairperson says the number of the has been growing since then.

“We don’t have a priest, a situation which is stalling church developments, including lack of gowns for alter servers,” Lodai Peter told Singaita FM.

Currently serving 3,000 faithful, the chapel is managed by a catechist, tasked with educating young people, preparing candidates and their families for the sacraments of Christian initiation, and helping with retreats and other meetings connected with catechesis.

On the other hand, a priest performs marriages, funerals, baptisms and other special religious rites; provides pastoral care to members of the congregation in their homes and in hospitals and counsels those in need of spiritual or moral guidance; undertakes administration and social duties as required.

One of the church members, Christine Ben, says more Bibles mostly Didinga version should be provided.

“Those who have Didinga version should give us at least five copes.”

Efforts to reach Chairperson for Inter-Churches committee in Greater Kapoeta were unsuccessful.
