NBGS: Two border points closed over Sudanese clashes

Authorities in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State on Wednesday closed until further notice two border points over security concerns.

This follows the eruption of violence in Khartoum at the weekend between the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and regular Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF).

SSPDF Lion Division III commander in the state, Maj Gen Akuei Ajou, says the crossing points are Kiir Adem in Aweil North and Marem in Aweil East.

“After the clashes in Sudan on Saturday, we decided to first hold back and see if any changes were  going to take place, but up to now, the situation is still not good,” Ajou told Akol Yam on Wednesday.

“So, we decided to closed the border points until when all the situation in Sudan is calm.”

Akuei, who attributed the order to close the border points to the state and national governments, also urged the public to avoid unnecessary movements at the border with Sudan.

On April 16, 2023, during the meeting over the unfolding situation in Sudan, the IGAD heads of states agreed to form a delegation that will be headed up by president Kiir to mediate the peace between the warring parties.

The fighting among Sudan’s military leader Gen Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) commander Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo has brought Sudan to unrest, claiming over 200 lives.
