MP condemns Torit-Kapoeta road attacks

A member of parliament representing Budi County at the Eastern Equatoria parliament has condemned the rampant attack and killing of travelers along the roads in the state.

There have been several incidents of deadly road attack in the areas along the Torit-Kapoeta road.

Officials blame the seeming unending incidents on intercommunal conflicts between communities in the greater Kapoeta.

The latest incident took place last week when two travelers traveling to Lauro Payam Payam in Budi County were gunned down.

Hon. Michael Kol Kol called upon the concerned government institutions in the state to take the matter seriously.

“Travelers moving from Kapoeta town to Torit should be protected. The same applies to those traveling from Kapoeta town to Lauro and any other place in the state,” he told Singaita FM on Tuesday.

The lawmaker called for identification and apprehension of the culprits.

“We are waiting for the authorities in Kapoeta South and the state Ministry of Local Government to ensure that the culprits are caught and brought to book,” Hon Kol added.

Similar attacks have also been carried out by armed youth from the two counties of Kapoeta South and Budi since January – a growing intercommunal conflict that observers blames on the government for doing less or nothing about.
