A mother and
her daughter died in a road accident in Gogrial West County at the weekend,
according to police.
They said
Aker Madut Adhal, 40, and her daughter Adhar Akot Akot, 16, were walking along
the road when a Toyota Land Cruiser pickup veered off, crushing them at
Nyok Thiang village on Saturday.
“The
pedestrians died before reaching the hospital,” said 2nd Lt. Kuol Mayot Kuol,
officer in charge of the county traffic police department.
He identified
the driver as Thiep Agou Deng, 50, who is currently in Gogrial town police
custody for investigation.
“We arrested
the driver after the accident. I am urging the drivers to be careful when they
see people moving along the road,” the officer added.
There have
been several reports of similar road deaths in the state.
Last week,
traffic police reported that one person had died and another sustained serious
injury after a motorcycle collided with a rickshaw in Kuajok town.
Most accidents in the state are caused by speeding and
unauthorized driving, especially by minors, officials say.
