The government of Lakes State and delegates from Juba converged
at Pachong in Rumbek East County on Monday to lay to rest the remains of the
former governor, Matur Chut Dhuol.
Matur, who had been battling diabetes, high blood pressure, and
heart disease, died on January 23 in Juba while under medication.
The former governor’s body was escorted by prominent
politicians from the state, including David Deng Athorbei, Marial Chanuong,
former IGP Majak Akech Malok, the Minister for Justice, Madool Arol, and
Governor Rin Tueny.
Late former Governor Matur’s body was first viewed at the state
parliament before it was taken to his residence at Pachong where he was buried.
Addressing the mourners at the parliament, Tueny acknowledged
late Matur’s positive contributions to Lakes State’s development, peace, and
security.
“Matur is a hero, and a hero never dies. His legacy remains.
He served wholeheartedly as a governor of Lakes State, and he accomplished many
things,” the governor recalled.
“He also served as the governor of Western Lakes, and he
also achieved many things. As he departs, his achievements will console us.”
