The deputy governor of Warrap State has promised the inmates of the Manyang-Kuel Central Prison in Kuajok town two bulls and assorted food items.

This comes after they staged a protest on Tuesday, demanding better living conditions.

The prison's acting director, Santino Awar Bak, says the 400 prisoners have been struggling with poor feeding and congestion.

Initially, the prison was built to house only 150 inmates.

In addition, the prisoners have been subsisting on ‘asida’, which they sometimes supplement with salt to taste.

“The situation is under control…after the deputy governor, Aluel Garang, donated two bulls, 20 bags of assorted food items, 25 dozen plates, medical supplies, and security lights,” Bak told Mayardit FM.

During the Tuesday incident, eight inmates escaped, after they broke down the doors, but five were rearrested two days later and returned to the prison.

Bak added that the police are searching for the three fugitives.
