Lightning kills mother and her three children in Aweil North

A woman and her three children have been killed by lightning on Thursday in Aweil North County of Northern Bahr el Ghazal state.

Police concluded the mother and her children were killed by lightning – while still indoors – after finding their badly burned bodies on Thursday morning.

It said the victims were struck inside their hut in Ngap Akot village of Ariath Payam. The hut reportedly caught fire due to a lightning bolt.

“..fire did not go off up to morning…after the fire went off the four bodies were collected by police and the community,” said Diing Reech Akok, Ariath Payam deputy Police Inspector.

The victims are 24-year-old mother with her two sons and a daughter below the age of 7.

Lightning is an electrical discharge caused by imbalances between storm clouds and the ground, or within the clouds themselves. Both fire and lightning are linked due to the flow of energy.
