Land case verdict ‘kills’ Yirol West man

A prisoner officer hanged himself to death over a land dispute in Yirol West County on Tuesday, police have confirmed.

According to police, the deceased Malith Makeny Kachuol, 52, lost a land case to his younger brother Mabor Makeny Kachuol, who is in his 40s, in the traditional court a few days ago.

“Primary investigation shows that the late lost a court case to his younger brother over the ownership of their father’s land,” Maj. Elijah Mabor told Mingkaman on Wednesday.

The over 200m2  family land was used by Mabor to construct his hotel on before his deceased elder brother claimed part of the land.

However, the traditional court ruled against Malith. Mingkaman 100 FM could not obtain the court verdict that was passed by the local chiefs in Yirol West.

Maj Mabor said as a result, Malith “hanged himself on a tree in his home compound at Dollah village on Tuesday night.

He was serving as prison officer in Yirol West County for South Sudan prison services in Yirol West.

The police officer stated that no person has so far been arrested in connection to the suicide after police carried out a primary investigation at the scene.

He urged community members across the state to stop committing suicide and seek counseling from relatives for better advice.
