Lakes State police reported that a 28-year-old man, identified only as Jungle Man, died after drinking excessive amounts of Star Gin while celebrating the arrival of New Year 2025.
Police spokesperson Maj. Elijah Mabor Makluach told
Mingkaman FM that the body was discovered in the market on Wednesday morning,
surrounded by bottles of Star Gin.
A postmortem conducted at Rumbek State hospital confirmed
that the cause of death was alcohol poisoning.
“A young man dies
last evening while taking alcohol. The alcohol is known as yoon, star gin, or
makuei lueth. The guy took a lot, and he lost his life in the process. That is
what has taken his life, but we count it on him because he is the one who took
it. The alcohol is called yoon in the local language,” said Mabor.
The police spokesperson stated that Lakes State experienced
a peaceful Christmas and New Year celebration, despite minor challenges
involving theft and cattle-related violence.
