Kiir orders BBC to protect public money from looters

President Salva Kiir has directed the newly appointed minister of finance and planning, Dr. Bak Barnaba Chol to stand against looting of government money and not to fall victim to corrupt officials.

Speaking during the swearing in ceremony on Friday in Juba, Kiir asked the new minister to focus on addressing the falling economy and inflation in the country.

“The Head of State told the new Minister to stay focused on the job and ‘not to accept being intimidated by those people who want to run away with public money,” statement from the office of the president reads.

With full assurance of cooperation towards economic reform agenda from the President, Dr. BBC pledged to use his expertise in addressing the country’s economic situation.

“Minister Bak said he will work to rein on the inflation, while paying salaries and wages on time, saying the SSP was undervalued and promising a strong response to the country’s economic crisis,” the statement partly stated.

Dr. Bak Barnaba Chol aka BBC was appointed on August 3, 2023 as national minister of finance and planning, replacing the Dr. Dier Tong Ngor whom president kiir sacked on 3rd August after a year in the office.

Both the new minister and relieved hold high papers in relevant field. Dr. Bak holds PhD in business administration while Dr. Dier holds PhD in Finance respectively.
