Salva Kiir Mayardit on Monday received Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria and
All Africa at his office, signifying the inaugural formal visit by a Patriarch
of Alexandria to Juba.
The visit
sought to enhance relations between the Orthodox Church and the South Sudanese
populace while fostering goodwill and development, as stated by the
presidential press secretary.
Patriarch
Theodore conveyed appreciation to President Kiir for his leadership in the
liberation of South Sudan and underscored the significance of faith in
promoting stability.
"May God
grant the people of South Sudan peace and prosperity, and may His love be among
us," he told reporters after the meeting.
The Patriarch
emphasized South Sudan's profound Orthodox Christian legacy and committed to
supporting nation-building initiatives.
This
significant gathering represents a new phase of cooperation between the
Orthodox Church and South Sudan, highlighting the critical role of interfaith
dialogue in tackling national issues.
His Beatitude
Theodoros II of Alexandria, is the current Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and
All Africa.
He was
elected following the untimely accidental death of Patriarch Petros VII.
