The office of the Women Union in Kapoeta South County, Eastern Equatoria State, says they are unable to carry out awareness activities on gender-based violence because they lack means of transport.
Henceforth, they are appealing to the government and well-wishers to provide them with a vehicle to ease their work in far reaching grassroot areas.
Hellen Nangolio, the chairlady of the union tells Singaita 88.3 FM that they wish to extend awareness on forced and early marriages, education, gender-based violence and peace building among the conflicting communities but transportation limits them.
‘‘The reason we don’t reach to the women in the Payam and Bomas for awareness on education, early and child marriage and also awareness on peace building is because of lack of transport mobility,” she stated.
“If the government is can step in and provide us with a vehicle it will be good so that we can move to grassroot areas and speak to women and educate our local communities in the Payam and Bomas. Some women are now aware of their rights and there is need to educate them.”
She is appealing to the State government and non-governmental organizations to support women activities in the county and Payam’s.
