The headteacher of Kapoeta Day Secondary School says the public school has recruited seven volunteers’ teachers to support learning in the school.
The development comes a month after Singaita FM published a story, detailing its understaffing.
Kapoeta day is the only government secondary school operating in Kapoeta town, with only four teachers government payroll.
As a result, parents resorted to contributing 20,000 Pounds per student to support the four teachers and the seven volunteers.
“Following the meeting with the parents, we have recruited some volunteers teachers, bringing the number of teachers in the school to 11. The volunteers have already started teaching,” said Omunu Joseph Ohisa told Singaita.
He stated that the school administration will be the one to pay the teachers with the contribution they get from parents.
At the school, there are 197 students, 53 of whom have registered for the secondary school leaving examinations.
“There re positive changes this term; teachers are available. For example, we had two lessons before lunchtime this morning,” Tabitha Amjuma, Senior 4 candidate, confirmed.
