The internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Pan-nyok Payam of
Twic County -Warrap State are appealing to NGOs and well-wishers for support,
particularly with non-food items such as plastic sheets for constructing
shelters before the rainy season begins.
The appeal was made on Wednesday this week during the
handover of three boreholes donated by Transformation of World in Christ.
Achel Bol, a representative of the IDPs in Chan Wathdit,
stated that most of them are currently taking shelter under trees as they are
unable to afford construction materials for shelters.
She expressed concern about the approaching rainy season, as
they lack permanent shelters to protect them and their children.
“We are really suffering from the sun’s heat because we have
no shelter to shield us. Our grass for thatching houses got burnt in the bush,
and now we have nothing for thatching a simple hut,” Achel said.
Nyuol Biar Malek, the coordinator for the Relief and
Rehabilitation Commission in Twic County, acknowledged the needs of the IDPs
and promised to engage other partners who can provide assistance to the people
before the rainy season starts.
“I will first talk to other partners in Twic to visit
Chandit and other areas to assess the situation. Then they will determine what
they can provide and what they can’t,” Biar stated.
The over one thousand IDPs living in Chan Wathdit were
displaced from their homes in Abyei Administrative Area and Warrap state last
year during the conflict between Dinka Ngok and Twic.
