Hyena kills soldier, civilian in Rumbek Center

A hyena killed a solider and civilian at Wunrual village of Rumbek Centre at the weekend, the police spokesperson in Lakes State said.

Among those the animal killed are an SSPDF soldier Makou Makat Yuol, 50; and Moch Machuei Makuach, 20.

Speaking to Mingkaman FM, Maj. Elijah Mabor said:

“When a young man was attacked and killed by the hyena, people rushed to rescue him the notorious animal. But it killed the SSPDF soldier and wounded two others. The residents managed to kill the hyena with spears.”

It is not clear if the soldier, who wanted to help the young man, was armed at the time of the attck.

The injured people are Chier Machuei Makuach, a brother of the deceased Moch and Maker Bith Machiek, both aged 45.

“The two injured people are now receiving medication at the Rumbek hospital for leg bone fracture, arm and head injuries,” he added.

In 2019, a hyena attacked and killed a woman and wounded nine others in the same village before it was killed by the SSPDF.
