Heavy police deployment in Aweil after killing, burning of teacher

There is heavy deployment of police in Aweil town following the gruesome killing of a 24-year-old teacher on Tuesday in Northern Bahr El Ghazal state.

Police said the victim – identified as Deng Deng Akuei was attacked and burnt to death by 4 armed men who were said to be putting on military uniforms.

The incident reportedly happened in the evening in Yar-achot village along Warawar-Baach Payam road of Aweil East County.

Witnesses say the deceased was coming from Zion Primary School in Majak Akoon when he met his attackers on the way to his home. He was reportedly hit on the neck and burned.

Police said Deng died at Wanyjok Health Center where he rushed for treatment.

“According to people who found the deceased, they said the man gave some information about his attackers before he died. The police has not yet arrested any one now. [But] I want to assure the public that the people who did this act will be brought to the justice,” said Captain Gout Guot Akol,  Police spokesperson in Northern Bahr el Ghazal state.

Captain Guot appealed the family of the deceased to allow the police to handle the matter.

There have been reports of gang-related attacks during the night in Aweil town in Northern Bahr el Ghazal state.
