
At least two
people were confirmed dead and three others injured after unidentified gunmen
allegedly opened fire on huts in Gogrial East County on Thursday morning.
The incident
happened at Wun-tim village in Manyang Payam during the wee hours.
“The gunmen
attacked the house around 3am. Two young men lost their lives on the spot,”
said Lt. Thiik Agoth Giir, acting director of the criminal investigation department
in the area.
“The armed
men used a torch to see who were inside the huts and started shooting them.”
He identified
the deceased as Bol Bol Deng, 21; and Aluat Manut Yel, 16.
The wounded are Nyanut Yel Mayen, 30; Awut Ajuong Bol, 6; and Deng Ajoung Bol, 5, all of
whom are receiving treatment at a health facility in Luon-Aker.
The motive
behind the killings is not known.
He added that
the suspects committed the crime and fled toward Jur River County in Western
Bhar el Ghazal State, a claim Mayardit FM could not immediately verify.
However, authorities
in Jur River are yet to comment on the accusation.
