Government approves SSP3.6 billion for Deployment of Forces

The Government has approved a budget of 3.6 billions South Sudanese pound for the deployment of the unified forces across the country.

Speaking to reporters in Juba on Friday after the council of minsters, government spokesperson, Michael Makuei said the budget was presented by the minister of peace building Stephen Phar who is also the secretary general of the National Transitional Committee (NTC).

Makuei said the minister of Finance is directed to release the fund to speed up the process of security arrangement.

“The cabinet passed a sum of 3,671,588,100 South Sudanese pounds. This is the budget which is allocated for the current Forces which were graduated and others are still in the training centers,” Makuei said.

“This money will be used for their deployment and all the other necessary arrangements so that the centers are empty and the phase two can start, ”

The 2018 revitalized peace agreement requires the unity government to train and graduate 83,000 unified forces within the timeframe of the transitional period to provide security and usher the country into a democratic dispensation.

So far, Close to 50,000 unified forces have been graduated across the country since last year August pending deployment which is key in security arrangement and preparation for general elections in December 2024.
