A 32-year-old man has been taken into custody by police in
Awan Riau Payam, Gogrial West County, Warrap State, on suspicion of killing his
wife.
Kuot Yany Angueek, police say, attacked and killed Wiech Yak
Thony at Maluil Dut Akol village on Monday night.
Maj. Marco Wol Manut, inspector of police in Awan Riau
Payam, said Yany repeatedly hit the victim on the neck and chest with a thick
stick.
“A suspect beat the deceased on the neck and chest and
dumped the body in the river,” Maj. Wol told Mayardit FM on Tuesday.
“The same suspect came to the police this morning and
claimed that his wife had been driven away last night. However, he later
confessed to having committed a crime."
The motive behind the killing is unclear, but police said
the suspect disclosed that the two were under the influence of alcohol when he
attacked the 50-year-old woman.
They also revealed that the two had been living alone after
Wiech left her first husband and children for her would-be killer.
Maj. Wol mentioned that the suspect has been transferred to
police headquarters in Gogrial town for further investigations.
He urged the relatives of the deceased to remain calm and
allow the law to take its course.
