A 14-year-old girl, Anguet Majok Dur, died in Arenypiny
Village, Aweil East County, Northern Bahr el Ghazal State after falling from a
tree while collecting firewood.
The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon. A relative, Yel
Yel, told Akol Yam FM that Anguet was rushed to the hospital but passed away on
the way.
“The child climbed up a tree to get firewood and fell down,
breaking her neck. There was no bleeding. She was taken to the hospital but died
before reaching the hospital,” Yel said.
Yel added that this was not the first such incident in the
area and urged parents to supervise their children more closely.
A similar accident occurred last year in Udhum Payam, Aweil
West County, when an elder fell to his death while cutting poles for a local
hut.
