A girl of 8 years has drowned in Gogrial West County as floods continue to devastate most parts of Warrap state.
The incident happened in Mading Wuony village in Gogrial Payam on Monday.
She drowned in a deep pond overflowing with flood water.
Agany Ayom Wek, the Deputy Payam Administrator told Mayardit FM that the child was tending to the farm when she fell into the pond.
He cautioned parents against allowing children to move around in flood waters.
“When you see a child going near water…prevent the child from the stream,” Mr. Ayom advised.
A similar incident happened in Gogrial East last week. At least 7 children died by drowning.
Authorities there have temporarily shut down schools in Gogrial East County due to torrential rains and flash floods.
