At least 15 schools have been forced to close due to floods in Gogrial East County of Warrap state.
The area has experienced consecutive rainfall for the last 2 weeks.
The schools affected include; Akoot, Achoot, Makiir Jok and Malual Kuel, and Light Academy primary schools, among others.
According to the County Education Director, more schools are likely to submerge in waters due to increase rainfalls.
“Our County is at lowland and hard to manage during flooding…buildings are expected to collapse if rains continues,” said Makeny Agoth Giir.
He added that measures are urgently needed to mitigate persistent floodings in Gogrial East.
“The way that we could overcome this flooding is for well-wishers like NGOs or construction companies to help create dyke. For time being, let’s try our normal ways of creating local dykes,” he stated.
Last week, similar incidents of flash floods caused the closure of at least 7 schools in neighbouring in Aweil South County.
An official said nearly 2,000 learners have been denied access to learning due to impassable roads and flooded classrooms.
The schools affected include; Rol-Gap, Pan-Akon, Hong-Adong, Maluil Akaja, Riang man Kueth, Alueth, Makuach-Ngong Athian, Adiany, Rieth-Nyin and Amet-waar primary.
