Flash floods destroy homes, displace families in Aweil South and West

At least 92 households have been destroyed by flash floods in Aweil South and West Counties, Northern Bahr el Ghazal state.

Some of the affected families told Akol Yam at Lol Chenguek and Mariem East Payam that the floods have destroyed their homes and crops.

Nearly 300 fedans of the farms have also been washed away by the floods.

They appealed for food and shelter.

Dut Majookdit, the Chairperson of the State Relief and Rehabilitation Commission said they have reached out to humanitarian organizations to intervene.

“We have received information of flooding from Aweil Center, Aweil South and Mariam East Payam that most of the people are living in bad condition. We are now trying to meet with our partners so that we can see how to help these people affected,” he stated.

Last year, 125,000 households were affected by floods in Aweil South County.
