Fire guts Governor Lobong’s office in Torit

The Office of the Governor of Eastern Equatoria State in Torit has on Wednesday morning caught fire, the Governor’s Press Secretary has confirmed.

Aliandro Lotok told Singaita FM that the fire that began at 7AM destroyed a section of the Secretariate building and torched the room containing historical files and documents of the state dating back to 1994. However, some documents were rescued in the process.

“When people were going to work and to clean the office, fire broke out and destroyed some offices. The fire started at the power house inside the Secretariate,” Lotok said.

He appreciated the swift response by the Civil Defense Force, UNMISS fire team and some residents of Torit town in their effort to contain the fire from spreading.

Mr. Lotok added that investigations are ongoing to establish the cause of the fire.

‘We will inform our people accordingly when the results of the investigation are out. And of course we want to inform our people that the office of the Honorable Governor will not be operating from the Secretariate until renovation is done.”
