One person has reportedly passed away due to starvation at Kadamakuch Boma in Budi County, Eastern Equatoria State.
The 40-year-old man, known only as Lomilo, passed away
while weeding his farm.
According to a lawmaker representing Budi County at the
state parliament, Lomilo died after he spent several days without eating
anything.
“The farmer died on the first of this month; he was in
his farm weeding when he succumbed to starvation,” Hon. Kokol Michael told
Singaita FM on Friday.
The MP believes that the drought, which resulted in a
poor harvest last season, is to blame for the current food situation in the
area, home to about 4,000 people.
The parliamentarian revealed that the area has been
experiencing hunger for months.
“The situation is becoming terrible. The suffering wasn't
limited to that individual alone. All people within that boma and other bomas
are in dire need of food assistance,” he explained.
He pleaded with the United Nations and humanitarian
groups to step in.
