Faith-based NGO offers Lopet vulnerable families food

The Islamic Relief Organization has distributed relief food items to 1,700 households in Lopet Payam, Kapoeta East County.

The distribution process, which commenced on Saturday last week, ended on Tuesday this week.

“I have been in Lopet for the last seven days with the faith-based organization. I am here to monitor the food distribution, which went well so far,” said Daniel Lokale Lomogin coordinator for Relief and Rehabilitation Commission in Kapoeta East County.

In June 2022, residents of Lopet and Kasengor boma fled to Mogos and Wokobo payams due to hunger and lack of clean drinking water in the area.

This made the officials of the two areas call for an immediate intervention from the government and partners – citing worsening living situation.

As a response, the faith-based organization offered the vulnerable families cereals, cooking oil, beans, and salt.

“Last year, many people were displaced due to hunger and lack of clean drinking water. As a result, the Islamic organization had to quickly response,” Lomogin added.
