An elderly woman has reportedly died after she fell down from a mango tree at Panriang village, Aweil West County, Northern Bahr el Ghazal State.
The incident happened on Saturday around 5 PM when the mother of six children tried to climb up the mango tree in her home to pick fruits.
However, Athil Lueth Deng, 65, fell off the tree, sustaining life-threatening injuries, including broken neck and backbone.
Upon arrival at Nyamlel Primary Care Healthcare Center, she never regained consciousness,” said Akok Nyang, police detective there.
For her part, Lual Kamis Lual, manager of the health facility, confirmed that Ms Lueth died while while the doctors were trying to resuscitate her.
“She died 15 minutes after reaching the hospital. During the examination, we realized that she had broken her neck; some backbones were broken too,” he added.
Since 2022, there have been several reports of people failing down from trees in Northern Ghazal State.
