EES to plant ten million trees by 2027

Eastern Equatoria state has announced plans to plant at least 10 million variety of trees in the next 5 years.

The State Minister of Agriculture presented the plan to the State Council of Ministers on Tuesday.

Placid Koks Kamakuch said they are targeting trees that can bear fruits, provide shade and beautification. They include guava, avocado, mango, among other trees.

The State Minister of Information Patrick Oting Cyprian said every institution of the government will be required to take lead in the tree planting exercise at homes, schools and streets.

“Planting has to be mandatory…each household should be able to have at least 2 to 3 trees in the compound and it should be trees like mangos, avocado, and guava which people can also eat, and also provide shades. They can get the trees locally here,” he announced.

The State Ministers also discussed the security situation in Eastern Equatoria state, among others.
