EES beefs up security on attack-prone Torit-Kapoeta road

Authorities in Eastern Equatoria State have deployed a joint security force along the Kapoeta-Torit road to prevent further attacks on travelers.

The move comes after the highway witnessed a serious of attacks in past few weeks.

This week alone, one traveler was reportedly killed and a police officer injured in two separate incidents in Hiyala Payam.

“We have sent our joint security force to the hot spots  in greater Torit  and greater Kapoeta,” said Maj.-Gen James Monday Enoka, police commissioner in Eastern Equatoria State.

“Anyone we spot carrying a gun by the road will lose it. We will remove the gun by force.”

Due to the festive season, many passenger vehicles are plying the highway, either transporting passengers to Torit or Kapoeta.

The police commissioner, however, appealed to residents to avoid night journeys, saying the forces wouldn’t be able to respond to any road attack on time.
