Drunken elderly bouncer kills self after injurious celebratory gunfire

A wedding night party turned tragic in Aweil East County in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State at the weekend when an armed bouncer opened a celebratory gunfire, injuring young celebrants.

The incident happened at a wedding ceremony of Majak Kuol and Nyirou Moudit in Ajok Mou village, Malual Baai Payam, according to police.

Col Daniel Aluok Yak, police inspector in the area, says the couple had hired a wounded soldier and other bouncers to keep law and order at the ceremony.

But because of too much joy, the soldier started shooting randomly, injuring the four children “by mistake”.

“They deployed some wounded heroes. After they got drunk, they started shooting randomly to show their happiness,” Col Aluok told Akol Yam FM.

Upon realizing he had injured some children, the officer said Mou Mou Atuer, 70, “immediately killed himself”.

He says the unnamed four injured children are currently receiving treatments at a hospital in the area.

The three arrested suspects are the couple and one relative. They will answer to charges for “organizing the wedding without involving police for security protection”.

He warns the public about organizing parties without authorization from police.
