Some MTN subscribers in Northern Bahr Ghazal State have raised concerns over poor network quality and connectivity.
Across the country, users have been complaining about voices and data services, limiting communication. Some clients say their voice bundles expire very fast and the network is always on and off.
Speaking to Akol Yam FM, an MTN subscriber in Aweil East County, Agoth Osman, says he has continued to lose voice bundles over poor connection.
“Our network here is so poor. We have an MTN tower here that goes off for days, and there is no any communication from MTN,” Osman lamented.
“We spend weeks without any communication, and we don’t know what their problem is. It works sometimes and when you subscribe for voice bundles, they expire very quickly because the connection is so poor.”
Another subscriber, Philip Alich Mayoldit from Wedwil, Aweil West County, questioned MTN ‘Everywhere you go’ slogan, saying it doesn’t represent the reality on ground.
“If you look into the phones of so many people, you will see that it is written ‘No service or emergency’ here in Wedwil,” Alich said.
“And it is worse with smartphones; it doesn’t work completely. MTN says ‘Everywhere you go’, but if you look at how it is operating, the quality of their services does not reach 50%.”
The subscribers appeal to the telecom supplier to improve its services to ensure good quality communication.
In response, the MTN’s branch manager in Aweil said an attempt to raise the tariffs had interfered with the system, causing the fault.
Kur Amos stated that the fault within the system has been rectified to restore better connection “and hopefully, everything will return to its place as usual”.
In 2022, MTN announced that it had increased the call tariffs from 300 SSP to 600 to meet the Central Bank’s exchange rate.
It went on to say the move was aimed at meeting current inflation and to improve its services. However, since then, subscribers have been complaining about poor network connection.
