Church confirms release of self-proclaimed Prophet Chol

Prophet Abraham Chol, leader of Kush Church who was sentence to 33 months in jail in December 2022 for insulting the president, is finally free, his church has confirmed.

In December 20, 2022, the high court in juba convicted Abraham Chol after he was found guilty of insulting the head of state and abusing the religion under article 76 and 202 of the South Sudan Penal Code Act 2008.

“Good evening Cushites this is to inform you that our Divine Father king Abraham Cush has been released today after making 20 months and 20 days in prison,” Cush Voice Mission said in a statement posted on its Facebook page.

Abraham Chol was first charged by the court of trying to overthrow the constitutional government after he prophesied downfall of the incumbent leadership.

In 2021, He prophesied that President Salva Kiir and his first vice president Dr. Riek would lose power on 9th July 2021 –A prophecy which did not come to pass.

He was arrested in July 2021 till his release this week. Besides 33 months in jail, he was supposed to pay 500,000 Pounds.

The Radio Community could not immediately access the defense lawyers and prison authorities for comment.
