The Chinese Embassy has donated humanitarian aid to Magwi County, Eastern Equatoria State, following January's violence between herders and farmers, which left over 40 dead, many injured, and families displaced.

Chinese Ambassador to South Sudan, Ma Qiang, emphasized the importance of the donation during the handover ceremony on Wednesday in Juba.

"The aid to Magwi County is a concrete practice of China's implementation of the outcomes of the meeting between two heads of state, a vivid demonstration of jointly building a China-South Sudan community with a shared future, and an inherent part of China's Africa policy featuring sincerity, real results, amity and good faith," said Qiang.

The donation, which includes food and non-food items such as rice, flour, sugar, cooking oil, bottled water, noodles, cookware, footballs, and sanitary pads, is directed towards displaced persons in Magwi County, with beneficiaries in the villages of Agoro, Ayii, and Nyolo.

China highlighted its ongoing commitment to South Sudan's development and humanitarian support.

Last year, China donated nearly 1,000 tons of emergency food assistance and 8,808 tents to South Sudan, all of which have been distributed to those affected.

In addition to immediate relief, China emphasized its broader support, including infrastructure and education initiatives.

“We provide hundreds of opportunities of capacity building programs annually, and has built a number of infrastructures such as hospitals, bridges, and buildings. For example, the Phase II of the renovation and expansion of Juba Teaching Hospital. After completion, it will further improve the level of medical services and teaching in South Sudan,” he added.

Hon. Julius Ajeo Moilinga, Chairperson of the Eastern Equatoria State Parliamentary Caucus in the Transitional National Legislative Assembly, explained the role sports play in peacebuilding.

"Football, when children begin to play where there is suffering, that means there is something good," Ajeo explained.

Ajeo further expressed gratitude to the Chinese Embassy for their support however he appealed for continued support.
